Telangana HC Allows 'Lord Sri Veera Hanuman Yatra' Procession on Hanuman Jayanti, Restricts Music Near Mosques

The Telangana High Court has granted permission for the 'Lord Sri Veera Hanuman Yatra' procession to take place in Nirmal district today, coinciding with Hanuman Jayanti. However, it has imposed a restriction on playing music within 150 meters of the nearby mosques.

The single-headed bench of Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy issued an interim directive to the Sub-divisional Police Officer and the relevant Station House Officer (SHO) in response to a writ petition filed by Ranjer Gangaprasad.

The petition challenged the denial of permission for the procession, which was initially refused due to concerns about the "communal sensitivity" of the area.

The petitioner argued that permission for the Sri Rama Shobha Yatra in Nirmal's Tanoor area was denied on the day of the Ram Navami festival under similar circumstances. Authorities cited three recent communal violence cases in the area as the basis for refusal. However, the Court overturned the denial and allowed the Yatra to proceed, albeit with certain limitations.

Keeping this in mind, the bench allowed the petition and ordered,

Respondent Nos..4 and 5 are directed to permit the petitioner to take out Lord Sri Veera Hanuman Vijava Yatra on 23.04.2021 on the eve of Sri Hanuman Jayanthi in Tanoor Village, Nirmal Mandal, Nirmal District, in the following route: "Starting from Vittaleshwar Mandir - Bus Stand - Telangana Grameena Bank - Kolli Galli - Post Office - ending at Vittalcshwar Tcmple"

In the Sri Veera Hanuman Yatra case, WP 10705 of 2024, J Prabhakar (Sr) represented the petitioner on behalf of Abinav Krishna Uppalluri, while the counsel for respondents was the Government Pleader for Home.
