Three New Supreme Court Judges to Take Oath Tomorrow at 3:30 PM

Three newly appointed Judges of the Supreme Court of India will take oath of office on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 3:30 PM.

According to a circular issued by the Supreme Court of India on October 5, the swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Auditorium, 3rd Floor, C-Block, Administrative Buildings Complex. The ceremony will be followed by High Tea in the Judges’ Dining Lounge.

The three Judges who will be sworn in are:

  1. Justice Sunita Agarwal, Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court
  2. Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court
  3. Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court for the State of Telangana

The appointment of the three Chief Justices as Judges of the Supreme Court was formally notified earlier, and their elevation will take effect with the oath ceremony tomorrow. Circular for Oath on 6.10.2026.

The appointment of Justice Sunita Agarwal, Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, will also take the number of women Judges in the Supreme Court to three. She will join Justice B.V. Nagarathna and Justice V.S. Mohana on the apex court bench.

The Supreme Court's sanctioned strength was recently increased to 38 Judges, including the Chief Justice of India. Following the three appointments, only one position will remain vacant.
