Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services Association Condemns Shoe-Throwing Incident Against CJI B.R. Gavai

The Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services Association has strongly condemned the shocking incident in which an advocate hurled a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai on Monday.

In a letter dated 6th October, the Association expressed its profound dismay over the act, stating:

“The Association views the incident with great dismay, as such behaviour within the precincts of the nation’s highest court strikes at the very spirit of mutual respect and decorum that has long defined the relationship between the Bench and the Bar. The dignity of judicial proceedings is not a matter of formality but the foundation upon which public confidence in the justice system rests.”

The Association emphasized that attacks on judicial officers undermine the integrity and authority of the judiciary, which relies on public trust and adherence to institutional decorum.

Reaffirming its support for the apex court, the Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services Association stated:

“The Uttar Pradesh Judicial Services Association stands in full solidarity with the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India and the companion Judges of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The Association also reaffirms its faith in the collective strength of the judicial and legal fraternity to protect the independence of the judiciary, and to maintain the majesty of the institution.”

The statement underscores the Association’s commitment to safeguarding the dignity and independence of the judiciary, emphasizing that mutual respect between the Bench and the Bar is essential for maintaining public confidence in the justice system.
