Varanasi Court Agrees to Hear Plea Against Rahul Gandhi Over Alleged Remarks on Sikhs During US Visit

A Varanasi MP-MLA court on Monday admitted for hearing a petition filed against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged remarks he made about the Sikh community during his visit to the United States in September 2024.

The petition, filed by Advocate Vivek Shankar Tiwari, accuses Gandhi—currently the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha—of making a statement that allegedly hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community. The plea further claims that his remarks received support from Khalistani separatist Gurwant Singh Pannu, amplifying the controversy.

An earlier petition on the matter had been dismissed by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Special MP-MLA Court) on November 28, 2023. However, a revision plea was later filed before the Sessions Court.

On Monday, Additional District and Sessions Judge Yajuvendra Vikram Singh accepted the revision petition for hearing, allowing the case to proceed further.
