193 Advocates Apply for Senior Advocate Designation in Rajasthan High Court

In a significant development reflecting the growing aspirations within the legal fraternity, the Rajasthan High Court has received 193 applications from advocates seeking designation as Senior Advocates under the Rajasthan High Court (Designation of Senior Advocates) Rules, 2026.

The applications were invited through an official notification dated February 27, 2026, with the last date for submission being March 31, 2026. According to the list released by the Permanent Secretariat for Designation of Senior Advocates, a large number of seasoned practitioners from both Jaipur and Jodhpur benches have applied for this prestigious recognition.

The list includes advocates with extensive experience spanning decades, highlighting the competitive nature of the designation process. The applicants come from diverse areas of legal practice, showcasing the depth and breadth of the Bar in Rajasthan.

The youngest advocate, Chhatrasaal Singh Tanwar is from the year 2015, whereas the most experienced is Advocate Santosh Kumar Jain practicing since 1972.

69 advocates have applied from the principal bench Jodhpur, whereas 124 advocates have applied from the Jaipur Bench.

However, in a minor development, one applicant — Rahul Kamwar — has withdrawn his application after submission, slightly reducing the effective number of contenders.

Rigorous Selection Process Ahead

The designation of Senior Advocate is not merely procedural but involves a multi-layered evaluation process. Applications will undergo scrutiny by the Secretariat, followed by assessment based on criteria such as:

  • Professional standing
  • Legal expertise
  • Reported judgments
  • Contribution to the legal field

The final decision will be taken by the Full Court of Judges of the High Court.

Prestige and Responsibility

Being designated as a Senior Advocate is one of the highest honours for a practicing lawyer. It not only recognizes professional excellence but also places greater responsibility on the advocate in assisting the court with fairness and integrity.

The substantial number of applications this year underscores the increasing competition and the evolving stature of the legal profession in Rajasthan.
