Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, asking the government to produce a police report that allegedly mentions former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath was present during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib.
The petition says that two Sikhs, Inderjeet Singh and Manmohan Singh, were burnt alive by a mob on November 1, 1984, and Kamal Nath was reportedly seen at the spot. The report in question was prepared by then ACP Gautam Kaul and submitted to the Police Commissioner.
Back in January 2022, the High Court had asked the government to file a status report. The Centre later submitted an affidavit, but the petition says it did not mention Kamal Nath’s name or role.
Senior lawyer H.S. Phoolka, representing Sirsa, said police records and newspaper reports from that time had clearly mentioned Kamal Nath’s presence, but the government ignored those details.
The High Court will hear the matter on November 18.
An FIR was registered against five people, but Kamal Nath was not named. The accused were later acquitted by the trial court, which ruled that they were not present at the scene.
