The Allahabad High Court is set to hear on Friday a petition filed against Robert Vadra, husband of Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in connection with his comments on the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
The petition, moved by the Hindu Front for Justice along with other parties, was originally listed for hearing on Wednesday before a division bench comprising Justices Rajan Roy and Om Prakash Shukla at the Lucknow bench. However, the matter could not be taken up that day.
The petitioners have urged the court to direct the Central government to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe Vadra's statements. They have also sought legal action against him under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The case stems from Vadra's controversial remarks in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack near a meadow in Pahalgam, located in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where 26 people—mostly tourists—lost their lives and several others were injured. Vadra appeared to suggest that non-Muslims were targeted in the attack due to a perception among terrorists that Muslims in India are being "mistreated," a comment that drew sharp criticism.
Robert Vadra is the son-in-law of Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the brother-in-law of senior party leader Rahul Gandhi.
