Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated an Ayushman Arogya Mandir at the Tis Hazari Court Complex, marking a significant expansion of healthcare access for litigants, lawyers, and court staff.
Calling the move a “turning point” for Delhi’s healthcare infrastructure, Gupta described the facility as “a very big milestone,” adding that it would initiate a new chapter in the city’s journey toward accessible and inclusive public health.
The medical facility, established within the premises of one of Delhi’s busiest court complexes, is part of the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat initiative and is designed to serve thousands who frequent the court daily—including litigants, advocates, and judicial personnel.
On the same day, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa inaugurated another Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Budh Bazar Road in Chaukhandi’s B Block. Sirsa confirmed that a total of 33 such health centers were inaugurated across Delhi on Tuesday, all equipped with “excellent infrastructure and facilities.”
During her address, CM Gupta criticized the previous administration for what she described as a failure to act on essential healthcare needs. “The previous government should have started this work four years ago but never even entertained the thought of it. I consider this a big crime against the people of Delhi,” she remarked.
Distancing the new initiative from earlier healthcare efforts such as Mohalla Clinics, Gupta said, “This is very different... those were temporary structures. What we are building now is robust and sustainable.”
Highlighting the urgency and commitment of her government, she added, “We got only eight months to do this work... We are working on a mission to ensure that not a single penny meant for the welfare of Delhi is wasted.”
In a related development, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood on May 18 supervised the distribution of Ayushman Bharat health cards to senior citizens aged 70 and above in Janakpuri, West Delhi. Minister Sood noted that CM Gupta had initiated the card distribution drive and stressed the importance of increasing public awareness of the scheme’s interstate benefits.
“People should inform their elders and children that these cards are valid in hospitals across states. We want every eligible citizen to benefit from this,” he said.
