Biker Death Case | Delhi Court Grants Interim Protection to Contractor

A Delhi court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to contractor Kavish Gupta in connection with the recent biker death case in Janak Puri. Gupta had approached the court seeking anticipatory bail after receiving a police notice asking him to join the investigation.

Additional Sessions Judge Harleen Singh directed Gupta to cooperate with the probe and appear before the Investigating Officer (IO). Assuring the court of his cooperation, Gupta said he would join the investigation on Wednesday.

While granting relief, the court ordered that no coercive steps be taken against him until the next date of hearing. The anticipatory bail plea has now been listed for arguments on February 18. The IO has already filed a reply to the application.

The case concerns the death of a biker who allegedly fell into a pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board in the Janak Puri area last week.

During the hearing, Gupta’s counsel, advocates Ajay Paul Marken and Geetu Paul, told the court that their client had received a notice to join the investigation on February 9, 2026, but could not appear due to ill health. They submitted that Gupta is ready to join the probe whenever required.

The prosecution did not oppose the request. The defence also undertook that Gupta would appear before the IO on February 11 at 10 am and sought protection from arrest until the next hearing, which the State did not object to.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has arrested sub-contractor Rajesh Prajapati and labourer Yogesh in the case. Yogesh was allegedly aware that the biker had fallen into the pit but did not inform the police. He was arrested on Sunday and remanded to judicial custody on Monday.
