Justice Madhav Jamdar of the Bombay High Court has cited an overwhelming workload as the reason for a nearly six-month delay in uploading a judgment he had dictated in open court on December 19, 2024.
The 85-page judgment, delivered in a matter under the Transfer of Property Act, held that a purchaser is bound by a decree of specific performance during the pendency of a suit. However, the judgment was only uploaded to the High Court website on May 30, 2025.
In the judgment itself, Justice Jamdar offered an explanation for the delay, highlighting his extensive work hours. He noted that he routinely conducts court proceedings beyond regular hours—often for two to two-and-a-half hours daily—and leaves his chamber only around 10:30 to 11:30 PM. His schedule reportedly includes reading case papers until 2:00 AM and working through weekends and holidays.
"As I am conducting the Court at least for 2 to 2 and a half hours almost every day after regular Court hours... and also attending the Chamber on almost all Saturdays/Sundays/Holidays for completing pending work, uploading of this order is delayed," he stated.
