CBI Drops 65 Witnesses in Sheena Bora Murder Case, Including Peter Mukerjea's Ex Wife

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday informed a special court that it has dropped 65 individuals from the list of witnesses in the ongoing Sheena Bora murder case. Among those removed is Shabnam Singh, the former wife of media executive Peter Mukerjea.

The case centers around Indrani Mukerjea, mother of the deceased Sheena Bora, who is the prime accused. Peter Mukerjea, Indrani’s former husband, is also facing trial along with Sanjeev Khanna, Indrani's ex-husband, and their former driver Shyamvar Rai.

Earlier in March, the CBI had submitted a final list comprising 125 witnesses. This included several police officials involved in the investigation, Sheena's friends Sanjana Phukan Raktim and Pranami Goswami, and Vidhie Mukerjea—daughter of Indrani and co-accused Khanna. The prosecution has now revised this list, excluding Singh from the proceedings.

The trial, currently underway on a day-to-day basis, is at the stage of witness examination.

According to the prosecution, 24-year-old Sheena was allegedly strangled in a car in April 2012 by Indrani, Rai, and Khanna. Her body was reportedly set on fire and dumped in a forest in Raigad district. The murder came to light in 2015 after Rai, arrested in a separate case, revealed details of the crime.

Indrani and Khanna were arrested in August 2015, while Peter Mukerjea was taken into custody in November the same year. All three are currently out on bail.
