Turkish-origin ground handling firm Celebi Airport Services Private Limited has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security’s (BCAS) decision to revoke its security clearance, citing concerns of national security.
According to a Reuters report, Celebi has argued in its petition that the government’s move threatens the livelihoods of 3,791 employees and could adversely affect investor confidence. The company also contends that the clearance was withdrawn without any prior notice or explanation.
The Indian government had recently cancelled the security clearance of Celebi and its associated entities on grounds related to national security. The matter is expected to be heard by the High Court next week.
In its plea, Celebi claims the order lacks transparency, stating that the invocation of "national security" is vague and unsupported by specific allegations or evidence.
"The order fails to disclose any specific or substantive reason except for a vague and general reference to 'national security'... It provides no reasons or justification," the petition reads.
The plea also highlights that while some of Celebi’s shareholders are based in Turkey, the majority ownership and control of the company rests with entities that are neither incorporated in nor originate from Turkey.
