Chief Justice of India BR Gavai is on a three-day official visit to Mauritius at the invitation of the country’s Chief Justice, Mrs. Rehana Bibi Mungly-Gulbul.
On arrival, Justice Gavai, accompanied by his family, participated in the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI), where he paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary. The MGI, a joint initiative of India and Mauritius, plays a key role in promoting Indian culture and heritage in the island nation.
During his stay, Justice Gavai called on President Dharambeer Gokhool and held discussions on the multifaceted India–Mauritius partnership, with particular focus on educational cooperation and judicial collaboration.
He also met Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, where both leaders highlighted the enduring cultural connect and strong people-to-people ties that continue to strengthen bilateral relations. The Prime Minister warmly recalled his recent state visit to India.
Earlier, the CJI held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Paul Raymond Berenger, during which they discussed the historical and cultural bonds that have long united India and Mauritius.
In the evening, Chief Justice Rehana Bibi Mungly-Gulbul hosted an official dinner in honour of the visiting Chief Justice of India.
