Defense Minister Rajnath Singh convened a high-level security meeting in Delhi on Friday morning with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and the three service chiefs.
The meeting came in the wake of India successfully repelling a series of drone and missile attacks launched by Pakistan, targeting military installations and urban areas.
The review focused on the evolving security situation following India’s recent cross-border operations under Operation Sindoor. The Indian military had earlier carried out precision strikes across nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam. The strikes, executed in just 25 minutes, reportedly killed 70 terrorists and injured 60 others.
Late Thursday night, Pakistan launched a second wave of attacks, targeting military stations and civilian areas in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Punjab, as well as Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur. These were swiftly countered by the Indian Armed Forces.
Several regions, including Srinagar, Jammu, and parts of Punjab and Rajasthan, experienced widespread blackouts during the attack.
Military sources reported that multiple Pakistani military outposts along the Line of Control (LoC) were destroyed in the Indian retaliation, with anti-tank guided missiles used in the assault. The Indian Army confirmed that it had effectively neutralized drone incursions and responded firmly to multiple ceasefire violations across the western border and LoC.
“Pakistan Armed Forces launched multiple attacks using drones and munitions during the intervening night of May 8 and 9, accompanied by ceasefire violations along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir,” the Army stated. “A befitting reply was given to these violations.”
The Indian Army emphasized its commitment to protecting national sovereignty, stating, “All nefarious designs will be met with decisive force.”
Tensions between the two countries have escalated since India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in response to the Pahalgam attack. Pakistan's retaliatory shelling across the LoC has resulted in the deaths of at least 16 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army continues to respond with force.
