A Delhi court acquitted all the remaining accused in a 32-year-old case related to the alleged forgery of records linked to the Rashtrapati Bhawan, bringing the long-pending trial to an end.
The Supreme Court had initiated the case nearly three decades ago. It centred on allegations that certain individuals fabricated entries in official Rashtrapati Bhawan records and submitted them before the apex court.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jyoti Maheshwari of the Rouse Avenue Courts acquitted three accused—Mohan Lal Jatia, Ashok Jatia and Ashok Jain—of charges including criminal conspiracy, forgery and fabrication of evidence.
During the trial, two other accused—Milap Chand Jagotra and Gurcharan Singh, who had allegedly served in the President’s Secretariat at the time—passed away. The court subsequently closed proceedings against them.
The case remained pending for over 30 years, highlighting delays in older criminal trials, before the court ultimately cleared all accused.
