Delhi High Court Strength Rises to 43 as Three Judicial Officers Take Oath as Judges

The Delhi High Court on Thursday welcomed three new judges — Justices Vinod Kumar, Shail Jain, and Madhu Jain — who were administered the oath of office by Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya at a ceremony held on the court premises.

With their elevation, the working strength of the High Court has risen to 43, against the sanctioned strength of 60 judges.

Notably, all three took their oath in Hindi.

The Central government had notified their appointments on July 22. Prior to their elevation, the trio — who joined the Delhi Judicial Service in 1992 — served as Principal District and Sessions Judges in different district courts. Justice Vinod Kumar was posted at Karkardooma, Justice Madhu Jain at Tis Hazari, and Justice Shail Jain at Saket.

Their names were recommended earlier this month by the Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai. The Collegium had proposed the appointments of Shail Jain and Madhu Jain on July 1, followed by Vinod Kumar on July 2.

This comes close on the heels of the swearing-in of six other judges — Justices V Kameswar Rao, Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, Vivek Chaudhary, Anil Kshetrapal, Arun Kumar Monga, and Om Prakash Shukla — who took oath on July 21.
