Intelligence Bureau officer Sukanth Suresh, who stands accused of abetting the suicide of his colleague and girlfriend, has approached the Kerala High Court seeking directions to prevent the police from leaking sensitive materials related to the ongoing investigation.
In his petition, Suresh has alleged that confidential case materials—exclusively held by the investigating agency—have been selectively leaked to the media, in particular to Malayalam news dailies. He contends that the leak constitutes a serious breach of investigative protocol.
According to the plea, chat messages allegedly retrieved from a deleted social media account were submitted by the investigating agency during the hearing of his bail application. However, Suresh claims that these materials appeared in news reports on May 24, the day after the High Court reserved its order on the bail plea.
The officer alleges that the selective and unauthorised disclosure of case material amounts to a “gross abuse of the investigative process” and appears to be aimed at stirring public outrage, prejudicing the ongoing judicial proceedings, and damaging his personal and professional reputation.
He has invoked Section 31 of the Kerala Police Act, 2011, Section 228A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and Section 193 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to argue that the leak violates legal safeguards meant to preserve the integrity of investigations and protect the rights of the accused.
The High Court had denied Suresh’s bail application on May 26, 2025.
In the present petition, filed under Bail Application No. 5091/2025, titled Sukanth Suresh P. v. State of Kerala & Others, the officer has sought a direction to the Station House Officer, Pettah Police Station (2nd respondent) to submit a report, and has requested the Court to direct higher police authorities to initiate an inquiry into the alleged leak.
