The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant an urgent hearing to a plea concerning the ongoing disruptions in IndiGo airline operations, noting that the Central Government has already stepped in to address the matter.
During the mentioning, counsel highlighted the difficulties faced by passengers who have been stranded at numerous airports across India after a large number of IndiGo flights were suddenly cancelled over the past few days. “Flights have been cancelled without prior intimation. This has caused immense inconvenience to citizens,” the counsel submitted before a bench led by the Chief Justice of India, also comprising Justice Joymalya Bagchi.
CJI Surya Kant acknowledged the seriousness of the situation, remarking that several passengers — including those with medical emergencies or urgent professional commitments — have been affected. However, he noted that the authorities are actively handling the crisis. “We are aware that lakhs of travellers are stuck. But the Government of India has taken cognizance and timely steps appear to be underway. Let us wait for further developments. At present, there is no pressing urgency for court intervention,” the CJI observed while declining priority listing.
