Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad Takes Oath as Orissa High Court Judge

Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad officially assumed office as a Judge of the Orissa High Court on Monday, May 12. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Harish Tandon in a ceremony held at the High Court premises.

Justice Shripad, previously serving on the bench of the Karnataka High Court, was recently recommended for transfer to the Orissa High Court by the Supreme Court Collegium. The Union Government notified the transfer on May 1.

Enrolled as an advocate in July 1989, Justice Shripad built a distinguished legal career primarily in the High Courts of Karnataka and Madras. His areas of expertise include Writ Jurisdiction, Election Law, and Service Law, and he has also appeared before various State Service and Administrative Tribunals.

Over the years, he has represented several prominent institutions, including the Election Commission of India (as Senior Standing Counsel), the University Grants Commission, the Competition Commission of India, TRAI, Karnataka Veterinary Sciences University, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, and the National Institute of Unani Medicines. He also served as Panel Counsel for nationalized banks and was appointed as Amicus Curiae in key matters by the Karnataka High Court.

In 1999, he was appointed Additional Central Government Standing Counsel, and in 2014, he took charge as Assistant Solicitor General of India, a position he held until his elevation to the Karnataka High Court on February 14, 2018.

Justice Shripad has contributed to several significant rulings, notably the 2022 Hijab ban judgment. With his induction, he becomes the fourth senior-most Judge of the Orissa High Court and is slated to retire on July 19, 2026. On his first day, he will sit on a Division Bench alongside Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra, the court’s third senior-most judge.
