The Central government on Thursday issued a notification appointing Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
He will assume the role following the retirement of current Chief Justice Suresh Kait, who is scheduled to demit office on May 23.
"In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, to perform the duties of office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from 24.05.2025 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Suresh Kumar Kait, Chief Justice, Madhya Pradesh High Court on 23.05.2025," the notification stated.
Justice Sachdeva brings with him over three decades of legal and judicial experience. Having enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1988, he practiced extensively before the Supreme Court, the Delhi High Court, and various district courts in Delhi. In 1995, he qualified as an Advocate-on-Record at the Supreme Court.
Throughout his legal career, he served as Standing Counsel for the Bar Council of India for more than 20 years and represented the Union of India as a Senior Panel Lawyer for over a decade, appearing in numerous high-profile cases.
In recognition of his legal acumen, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in July 2011. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013, and was confirmed as a permanent judge on March 18, 2015. He was transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court on May 30, 2024.
Justice Sachdeva now steps into the role of Acting Chief Justice at a crucial juncture, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a distinguished record of service.
