Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva was sworn in as the 29th Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Thursday, July 17, at Raj Bhawan.
The oath was administered by Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda.
Born on December 26, 1964, in Delhi, Justice Sachdeva completed his schooling at Delhi Public School and graduated in commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi. He obtained his law degree from Campus Law Centre in 1988 and enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi the same year. He became an Advocate-on-Record of the Supreme Court in 1997, securing second rank nationally.
An accomplished legal professional, Justice Sachdeva represented India at the Commonwealth Young Lawyers Course in London and trained under the Indo-British Advocacy Skills Project. He conducted advocacy workshops across several High Courts and served as Standing Counsel for the Bar Council of India and Senior Panel Counsel for the Union of India for over a decade.
He was designated Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in 2011. Recognised for academic excellence, he received several honours including the National Prize from the Directorate of Education and a British Council Scholarship.
Justice Sachdeva was appointed Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court in 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2015. He was transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court in May 2024. He earlier served twice as Acting Chief Justice before his elevation to Chief Justice.
