Justice Vivek Kumar Singh was sworn in as a Madhya Pradesh High Court judge on Thursday, July 24. Chief Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva administered the oath of office in a ceremony attended by all High Court judges, the Registrar General, Advocate General, and members of the Bar Council.
In his address following the ceremony, Justice Singh expressed an emotional connection to Madhya Pradesh, calling it his “parent High Court” and stating his wish to retire from the state’s judiciary.
“Yesterday, as I travelled from Jabalpur Airport, I saw a temple named Banjari Mata — the same name as my village in Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh. Then I was allotted Court No. 25, which coincides with my birthdate. These felt like divine signs,” he said, adding, “Though my elevation was from Allahabad, I consider Madhya Pradesh my judicial home because of my deep-rooted ties here.”
Justice Singh also noted that while he previously served in the Allahabad and Madras High Courts, much of his childhood and personal memories are linked to Madhya Pradesh. “I hope to serve here until retirement and will do my best with everyone’s blessings,” he said.
Born on March 25, 1968, Justice Singh graduated in law from APS University, Rewa, in 1993. He enrolled as an advocate the same year and began practicing civil and criminal law at the Allahabad High Court.
He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court in 2017 and became a Permanent Judge in September 2019. Following his transfer to the Madras High Court in November 2023, he served there briefly before being transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court, as recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium in May. The Centre notified his transfer on July 14
