The Kerala High Court on Thursday granted bail to Sukanth Suresh, an intelligence officer accused of abetting the suicide of his colleague and girlfriend, Megha Madhusoodhanan.
Justice Bechu Kurien Thomas allowed the bail application, noting that the petitioner had been in custody since May 27, 2025 — a total of 44 days — and that continued detention would serve no further purpose. The Court also observed that the primary phase of investigation had already been completed.
According to the prosecution, the accused allegedly sexually exploited the victim under the pretext of marriage and later withdrew from the relationship, thereby abetting her suicide. The prosecution further opposed bail on the grounds that the mobile phone report was still pending and that custodial interrogation would be necessary after receiving the report.
Earlier, Suresh’s application for anticipatory bail had been rejected, following which he surrendered before the investigating officer.
While granting bail, the Court imposed certain conditions to ensure cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
The victim, Megha Madhusoodhanan, was working as a Security Assistant/Executive at the Bureau of Immigration, Trivandrum Airport. On May 27, she allegedly died by suicide after jumping in front of a train at Pettah Railway Station.
Her family alleged that Suresh had financially exploited her, with a substantial portion of her salary transferred to him. They claimed she ended her life after Suresh abruptly withdrew from the relationship. In contrast, Suresh contended that pressure from the victim’s family to end the relationship was the reason behind her suicide.
