The Kerala High Court Advocates' Association (KHCAA) has issued a notice cautioning lawyers against creating and sharing reels, videos and similar content from within the High Court premises.
In a notice dated June 3, the Association said that such activities are inconsistent with the dignity of the legal profession and the ethical standards expected of advocates.
The KHCAA referred to Section 49(1)(c) of the Advocates Act, which empowers the Bar Council of India (BCI) to frame rules governing professional conduct and etiquette for advocates. It also cited the Bar Council of India Rules, stating that the creation and circulation of such content may amount to professional misconduct.
According to the Association, advocates are expected to maintain the decorum of court premises and avoid conduct that could undermine the dignity of the institution.
The notice further warned that action may be initiated under Section 35 of the Advocates Act against lawyers found engaging in such activities. Section 35 provides for disciplinary action against advocates for professional misconduct.
"Action can be taken against such acts under Section 35 of the Advocates Act. Members are advised to refrain from such acts through social media platforms," the notice stated.
The KHCAA has therefore advised all its members not to create or share reels, videos or other social media content from the High Court premises.
