Lenskart Admits Trademark Infringement, Delhi HC Disposes of Titan’s Suit

The Delhi High Court has disposed of a trademark infringement suit filed by Tata Group’s Titan Company Limited against eyewear retailer Lenskart, after the latter admitted to the unauthorized use of Titan’s registered marks on its website and in meta tags.

Titan had sued Lenskart Solutions Pvt. Ltd., founded by Peyush Bansal, alleging that its trademarks — Titan, Titan Eye+, and Fastrack — were being used without permission both visibly on Lenskart’s website and invisibly through meta tags embedded in the site's source code. Meta tags are HTML elements that provide information about a webpage to search engines and other platforms.

Appearing on advance notice, Lenskart’s counsel acknowledged the use of Titan's trademarks and termed it an “inadvertent mistake.” The company clarified it had no intention to infringe Titan’s intellectual property and had already removed the infringing material. It also assured the Court of its willingness to take down any other such content if identified by Titan in the future.

Taking note of these submissions, the Court decreed the suit in Titan’s favour, binding Lenskart to its statements and concluding the matter.
