A Meghalaya court on Wednesday remanded three individuals to judicial custody in connection with the high-profile murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, whose body was found in a gorge in East Khasi Hills district last month.
The trio — property dealer Silome James, flat owner Lokendra Tomar, and security guard Balla Ahirwar — had been arrested from Madhya Pradesh on charges of tampering with evidence and obstructing justice. They were earlier in police custody for six days following their arrest.
Assistant Public Prosecutor Tushar Chanda informed PTI that Silome James was sent to 14 days’ judicial custody, while Tomar and Ahirwar were remanded for seven days.
The arrests are linked to a flat in Indore where Sonam Raghuvanshi, the victim’s wife, and her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha stayed after the murder. According to investigators, the flat was leased by James to Vishal Chauhan — one of the three alleged contract killers — and later used to hide stolen jewellery and other items taken after the crime.
Sonam, Raj, and the three alleged hitmen — Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi — have already been arrested in the case.
Raja Raghuvanshi had married Sonam on May 11 and was reported missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23. His mutilated body was discovered on June 2 in a deep gorge in the Sohra area.
The Meghalaya Police's special investigation team (SIT) continues to probe the broader conspiracy and trail of events that led to the murder.
