Over 5 Lakh Cases Settled in Haryana Lok Adalat; 82,000 in One City Alone

In a massive drive for quick and amicable justice, over five lakh cases were disposed of during the Lok Adalat held across Haryana on July 12, with 82,000 cases settled in a single city.

The initiative, organized by the Haryana State Legal Services Authority (HALSA), was conducted through District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) across 22 districts and 34 subdivisions.

A total of 170 benches heard and resolved matters ranging from traffic challans and cheque bounce cases to matrimonial disputes and motor accident claims.

Despite the large number of disposals, over 15 lakh cases continue to remain pending before various courts across the state. Of these, more than 10 lakh are criminal cases, while nearly 5 lakh are civil matters.

Noteworthy among the cases settled was an 11-year-old criminal appeal, Kashmir vs M/s Simar, resolved by Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajnish Kumar Sharma at the Karnal Lok Adalat.

In another significant settlement, a motor accident claims case titled Ajay vs Kuber and ICICI Lombard Insurance Co.—pending since 2020 due to delays in issuing a disability certificate—was finally resolved in Faridabad.

District and Sessions Judge-cum-DLSA Chairman, Sandeep Garg, facilitated the examination of the petitioner by a medical expert, who assessed 41% disability. The matter was then amicably settled for ₹6.5 lakh, more than double the original claim of ₹3 lakh.

The latest edition of the Lok Adalat underscores the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in reducing case backlogs and delivering timely justice.
