Suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader Prajwal Revanna has once again approached the special court handling cases against elected representatives, seeking bail in the rape case filed against him.
Revanna had earlier been denied bail, after which he moved the High Court, citing delays in the trial as a change in circumstances. On July 9, Justice SR Krishna Kumar advised him to approach the trial court instead and said he was free to come back to the High Court if needed, depending on the trial court’s decision.
The High Court, on a request by Revanna’s counsel, also directed the trial court to decide on the new bail plea within ten days of it being filed. Acting on this direction, Revanna has now filed a fresh application for bail.
Revanna is the main accused in four separate cases that surfaced after over 2,900 sexually explicit videos were allegedly circulated online. The first FIR was lodged in April last year by a domestic worker employed at the Revanna family’s farmhouse. She accused him of repeated sexual assault since 2021 and claimed he threatened to leak videos of the abuse if she ever spoke out.
A Bengaluru court has framed several charges against him, including rape, voyeurism, criminal intimidation, and circulation of private images without consent. The trial court reserved its verdict in the case on July 18, with the ruling expected on July 30
