Punjab Govt Extends and Appoints Law Officers to Represent State in Courts

The Punjab government on Wednesday announced a major reshuffle and extension of law officers in the office of the Advocate General (AG) to handle litigation involving the state before the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the Supreme Court.

A total of 111 law officers — including Additional Advocate Generals (AAGs), Senior Deputy AGs, Deputy AGs, Assistant AGs, and Advocates-on-Record based in Chandigarh and Delhi — have been granted an extension in their roles. The full list of appointments is available through the official notification.

Among those continuing in their roles is Senior Advocate Shadan Farasat, who will remain as an AAG representing Punjab in the Supreme Court. Advocates Gaurav Dhama, Rajat Bhardwaj, and Rajesh Mahajan have also been given extensions as AAGs in Delhi. Advocate Vivek Jain has been newly appointed as an AAG in Delhi.

Additionally, Advocates Talha Abdul Rehman, Rishikesh Kumar, and Bhakti Pasrija will continue as Deputy Advocate Generals (DAGs) in Delhi. Two new DAGs — Advocates Prateek Krishan Chada and Tushar Sannu Dahiya — have also been appointed.

In Chandigarh, the appointments include 18 new AAGs, 7 Senior Deputy AGs, 24 Deputy AGs, and 35 Assistant AGs.

This restructuring follows the recent appointment of Advocate Maninderjit Singh Bedi as the new Advocate General of Punjab on March 30, after Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh stepped down. Senior Advocate Anu Chatrath, who was named as a Senior AAG shortly thereafter, received her formal appointment order today.
