Recently, the Rajasthan High Court has granted interim relief to a student with 100% hearing impairment.
The Court directed the State to provide two interpreters to the petitioner—one for assisting in preparation for theoretical exams, and another for assistance both during preparation and at the time of practical examinations.
The order was passed by Justice Anoop Kumar Dhand while hearing a petition filed by the student pursuing a Bachelor of Radiation Technology course. The petitioner had highlighted that no interpreter was available for practical subjects, and even the interpreters initially provided for theoretical assistance had withdrawn, severely hampering her exam preparation.
After seeking and reviewing a reply from the State regarding the assistance being arranged for the petitioner, the Court issued the following interim directions:
Provision of one extra hour and an additional answer sheet to the petitioner during both theoretical and practical examinations.
The examination paper shall be specifically prepared for candidates with hearing impairment, as applicable.
The Court posted the matter for further hearing on July 8, 2025, clarifying that the remaining reliefs sought in the petition would be considered at the final stage of disposal.
