SC Allows Hindus and Muslims to Pray at Bhojshala–Kamal Maula Complex in Dhar on Friday

The Supreme Court has allowed both Hindus and Muslims to offer prayers at the Bhojshala Temple–Kamal Maula Mosque in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday.

Hindus can pray from sunrise to sunset on Basant Panchami, while Muslims can offer Friday namaz from 1 pm to 3 pm.

THe Court further directed that, the Muslim worshippers attending namaz must share their names with the district administration.

The bench, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, asked both communities to respect each other and cooperate with authorities to maintain peace.

The case was filed by the Hindu Front for Justice (HFJ), which wanted Hindus to have exclusive rights on Basant Panchami. They said the 2003 Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) order did not cover what should happen when Basant Panchami falls on a Friday.

Hindus see Bhojshala as a temple for Goddess Saraswati, while Muslims call it the Kamal Maula Mosque.

The 2003 ASI order allows Muslims to pray on Fridays (1–3 pm) and Hindus to perform rituals on Basant Panchami and have Tuesdays exclusively.
