The Supreme Court Collegium has proposed the transfer of Delhi High Court judge Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma to the Calcutta High Court.
The recommendation was made during the Collegium's meeting on March 27.
Justice Sharma began his judicial career in 1992 with the Delhi Judicial Service and was elevated to the Higher Judicial Service in 2003. Over the years, he has held significant positions, including Registrar General of the Delhi High Court and Principal District & Sessions Judge, New Delhi.
A Fellow of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute, Justice Sharma has also contributed to judicial training, particularly in mediation under the Supreme Court’s Mediation Project. He was sworn in as a Delhi High Court judge on February 28, 2022.
He has played a key role in initiatives such as the Vulnerable Witness Deposition Complex program and the formulation of related guidelines.
The Calcutta High Court, which has a sanctioned strength of 72 judges, is currently operating with 44, leaving 28 vacancies.
