The Supreme Court has received 293 applications from advocates seeking designation as Senior Advocates after issuing notices on February 12 and February 19, 2026, inviting eligible members of the Bar to apply for the honour.
In a notice dated March 16, the Court’s Committee for Designation of Senior Advocates (CDSA) invited suggestions and views from members of the Bar and other stakeholders regarding the proposed designations.
The notice states that the feedback received will be placed before the Full Court, which will consider the proposals in accordance with the Guidelines for Designation of Senior Advocates, 2026.
The Court has also clarified that any suggestions or views must be backed by verifiable material and can be submitted either to the CDSA Secretariat at the Supreme Court or through email.
Such submissions must reach the Secretariat by 4:30 PM on April 1, 2026, the notice said, adding that inputs received after the deadline will not be considered.
Earlier, the Court had clarified that advocates whose applications had not been rejected by the Supreme Court or any High Court in the past two years were eligible to apply. It was also stated that advocates whose applications had not been deferred by any court in the past one year could submit fresh applications.
