The Supreme Court on Friday declined to urgently hear pleas relating to issues surrounding the NEET re-test scheduled for June 21, stating that all matters connected to the examination are already pending before a Bench headed by Justice PS Narasimha.
The matter was mentioned before Chief Justice of India Surya Kant by lawyers representing NEET candidates.
When one of the pleas seeking an urgent hearing was mentioned, the Chief Justice said that all NEET-related cases would be heard together by Justice PS Narasimha's Bench.
"All NEET matters will go before the Bench of Justice PS Narasimha. No urgency," the CJI observed.
Later, another counsel brought up a petition concerning around 1,600 NEET candidates, arguing that students were facing immense stress and anxiety due to rumours circulating on social media and recent developments in proceedings before the Delhi High Court.
The counsel submitted that students were under tremendous pressure amid reports regarding paper leaks and related developments that had gained traction online.
Additional concerns were raised over admit cards for the June 21 re-test. According to the submissions, some candidates were unable to download their admit cards, while others received admit cards assigning different examination centres at the last minute.
"The students hardly have the time," the counsel told the Court.
However, the Chief Justice declined to entertain the request for urgent intervention and simply stated, "We will not entertain."
When counsel requested that the petition at least be tagged with the pending NEET matters so that the students' concerns could be addressed, the Chief Justice reiterated that all related issues were already before the Justice PS Narasimha-led Bench.
"We know that even the judicial platforms are also being unfortunately... All these matters are before Justice Narasimha's Bench. When the court will open and the Bench is sitting, all matters will be there," the Chief Justice observed.
The Supreme Court thus refused to grant any immediate relief or separately list the matter, leaving all issues concerning the NEET re-test to be considered alongside the pending cases before the Justice PS Narasimha Bench.
