SC Rejects Activist's Plea on Stubble Burning, Cites Lack of Specifics

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea seeking strict action against stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana, stating that the application lacked specific details.

A bench of Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan noted that the court has already issued multiple orders on the issue and continues to monitor the matter. "We do not want to encourage intervention applications merely for the sake of it," the bench observed while rejecting the plea.

The petition, filed by environmental activist Vikrant Tongad, argued that pollution from stubble burning during April-May poses serious health risks, particularly to residents of Delhi-NCR and those in affected states.

It highlighted the vulnerability of children and the elderly to the hazardous air quality.
