SC Slaps Contempt Notice on DDA Vice-Chairman for Illegal Tree Felling Near SAARC University

The vice-chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) received a contempt notice from the Supreme Court on Wednesday regarding the felling of more than 1,000 trees. This action was taken for the construction of an approach road connecting Chattarpur Road and SAARC University near Maidan Garhi.

A bench of justices B R Gavai and Sandeep Mehta noted :

"Prima facie, we find that the action of DDA of felling the trees for constructing the road is in contempt of order passed by this court dated February 8 and March 4, 2024. Issue notice to the vice-chairman of Delhi Development Authority (DDA) calling upon to show cause why an action for committing contempt of order of this court be not taken against him."

The Court directed the issuance of a notice to the Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority, located at Vikas Sadan, INA, New Delhi-110002. The notice is returnable on 8th May, 2024, calling upon him to show cause as to why action should not be taken against him for committing contempt of the orders passed by the Court dated 8th February, 2023, and 4th March, 2024.
