A Mumbai City Civil Court has granted interim relief to actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra and businessman Raj Kundra by restraining social media influencer Shamita Yadav from publishing or circulating any allegedly defamatory content against them and directing her to remove existing posts from her social media platforms.
Additional Sessions Judge SM Bukke passed the interim order on July 17 in a civil defamation suit filed by Shetty and Kundra against Yadav and others.
The Court restrained Yadav, along with her agents and representatives, from publishing, uploading, circulating, republishing or disseminating any defamatory, malicious or scandalous statements, allegations or insinuations against the couple or their companies through any electronic or other medium until the next hearing.
The order also directs Yadav to immediately take down all allegedly defamatory content from her social media accounts and any other platform where it has been published.
The matter has been listed for August 21, when the Court will review compliance with its interim directions.
Shetty and Kundra instituted the ₹15-crore civil defamation suit in April 2026 against Yadav, Meta Platforms, and unidentified "John Doe" defendants over two Instagram reels uploaded in February 2026 through the account "the.ranting.gola."
According to the plaint, the reels falsely portrayed the couple as criminals, insinuated that Raj Kundra targets minors, and accused Shilpa Shetty of promoting communal discord and misleading the public. The plaintiffs alleged that the videos went viral, with one of the reels receiving more than 3.64 lakh likes.
The suit argues that the content amounts to defamation by innuendo, violates the couple's personality and privacy rights, and has adversely affected their commercial relationships and brand endorsements.
The plaintiffs also relied on a February 6 ex parte interim injunction issued by the Bengaluru City Civil Court restraining unauthorised use of Shetty's name, image and persona, as well as previous Bombay High Court orders protecting her personality and privacy rights and directing online platforms to remove infringing content.
Advocates Pradeep D. Gandhy, PG Chudasama, Laxman Yadav, Gaurav Gandhi, Atharva Navander and Abhineet N. Pange represented Shetty and Kundra in the proceedings.
