Supreme Court Designates Seven Former High Court Judges As Senior Advocates

The Supreme Court of India has designated seven former High Court judges as Senior Advocates following a Full Court meeting held on May 20, 2026. The designations came into effect from May 20, according to a notification issued on May 21.

The decision was approved by the Chief Justice of India Justice B.R. Gavai and companion judges of the Supreme Court during the Full Court meeting.

The former High Court judges who have now been designated as Senior Advocates are:

  • Justice Babu K.

  • Justice Debabrata Dash

  • Justice Khwairakpam Nobin Singh

  • Justice Mahboob Ali

  • Justice N. Nagaresh

  • Justice Shrikant Dattatraya Kulkarni

  • Justice V.G. Arun

The designation of Senior Advocate is considered one of the highest recognitions for legal professionals in India and is granted by the Supreme Court or High Courts to advocates who have demonstrated exceptional legal ability, standing at the Bar, and contribution to the legal profession.
