Supreme Court Orders DDA to Remove Illegal Constructions in Okhla Village

The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to demolish unauthorized constructions and encroachments in Okhla village, Delhi, emphasizing adherence to legal procedures.

A Bench comprising Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan instructed the DDA to act in accordance with the law concerning illegal structures on 2 bighas and 10 biswas of land, and to submit a compliance affidavit within three months. The court stressed that a minimum of 15 days’ notice must be served to affected individuals before initiating any demolition.

Regarding an additional area of 3 bighas and 8 biswas, the court noted that 1 bigha and 8 biswas falls under the Pradhan Mantri – Unauthorized Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY), while the remainder lies outside its scope. The court directed the state government to proceed with demolition of unlawful structures on land not covered by the PM-UDAY scheme, in line with legal protocols.

The directions were issued during the hearing of a contempt petition related to the violation of the Supreme Court’s 2018 order aimed at curbing encroachments and unauthorized constructions on public land in the national capital.
