The Delhi High Court has raised concerns over the use of Shoorveer, a musical tribute to Maharana Pratap, during a violent fight sequence in Mirzapur: The Movie.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia observed on Thursday that using the song against the backdrop of violence was “not in good taste” and directed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to take a decision within a week on the proposed changes to the scene.

The Bench made the observation while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the use of the song in the film.

“Prima facie, it does not appear to be in good taste. We have come to a situation where we are revering violence,” the Court remarked.

The PIL concerns the placement of Shoorveer during the climax of the film, where the lead characters are shown fighting a group of goons.

Appearing for the film’s producer, the counsel submitted that the song was used only as background music to “embellish” the fight sequence.

The Court’s directions came in the context of the proposed modifications to the scene, with the CBFC asked to decide on the changes within a week.
