The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting held on June 2, 2026, approved the proposal for the appointment of three judicial officers as Judges of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
The officers recommended for elevation are:
Chirag Bhanu Singh
Bhupesh Sharma
Yogesh Jaswal
District and Sessions Judge Kanwar Chirag Bhanu Singh has been appointed as the Special Executive Officer to the Chief Justice of India. He has previously served as a Registrar at the Supreme Court of India. At present, he is serving as the Presiding Officer of the Labour Court, Shimla.
Born on 18 December 1970 in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, Kanwar Chirag Bhanu Singh completed his graduation from Mandi Post Graduate College. He subsequently obtained his Law degree from Himachal Pradesh University in 1994.
After securing his licence to practice law from the Himachal Pradesh Bar Council, he began his legal career by practicing before the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Over the years, he has held several important judicial and administrative positions, culminating in his latest appointment to assist the Chief Justice of India in a key executive capacity.
The recommendation was made by the Supreme Court Collegium as part of the ongoing process of strengthening the judiciary and filling vacancies in the High Courts. Following the Collegium's approval, the names will now be forwarded to the Central Government for further processing and issuance of warrants of appointment.
