Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case: Accused Again Seeks To Plead Guilty

The Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his Mumbai residence in January 2025 has once again moved an application expressing his intention to plead guilty to the charges against him, nearly a month after a court rejected his earlier plea.

On Thursday, Additional Sessions Judge GP Deshmukh directed prison authorities to formally communicate with the Bangladesh Embassy and facilitate the accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam, in contacting the embassy.

Islam had earlier moved an application seeking to plead guilty, which was rejected by the Mumbai court on September 11. The court had held that he would face trial in the case.

The accused is currently in judicial custody. He was arrested two days after the alleged stabbing incident on January 16, 2025.

Islam has been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to robbery involving the use of a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt and house trespass. He also faces charges under relevant provisions of the Foreigners Act and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules.

According to the prosecution, Khan was repeatedly stabbed with a knife by an intruder inside his 12th-floor apartment in Mumbai's upscale Bandra locality.

The 54-year-old actor underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged five days later.
