SC Collegium Recommends Transfer of Chief Justices of Madras and Raj HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has proposed the transfer of Chief Justice KR Shriram from the Madras High Court to the Rajasthan High Court, and Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava from the Rajasthan High Court to the Madras High Court.

Justice KR Shriram, who was elevated as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in September 2024, began his legal journey in Mumbai. Enrolling with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa on July 3, 1986, he started practice under Senior Advocate S Venkiteswaran and later set up his independent practice in 1997, focusing on commercial law and international trade. His judicial career commenced with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on June 21, 2013. He was made a permanent judge on March 2, 2016.

Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, who currently heads the Rajasthan High Court, was earlier appointed as its Acting Chief Justice in July 2022, and confirmed as the regular Chief Justice in February 2023. A native of Bilaspur, he completed his schooling there and went on to earn a gold medal in LL.B. from KR Law College. He enrolled with the Madhya Pradesh Bar Council in 1987 and practiced in Raigarh district court and later the High Court. In 2005, he was designated a Senior Advocate and was elevated as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court in 2009. He was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court in October 2021.

The proposed reshuffle awaits formal approval from the Centre.
