A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in the sexual harassment case filed by six women wrestlers.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwini Panwar of the Rouse Avenue Courts passed the order. Co-accused Vinod Tomar, the former Assistant Secretary of the WFI, was also acquitted.

As media was not allowed inside the courtroom, Singh's lawyers described the verdict as an "honourable acquittal."

The case arose from allegations made by six women wrestlers, who accused Singh of sexually harassing them. Following their complaints, the Delhi Police registered an FIR against him.

On June 15, 2023, the police filed a chargesheet accusing Singh of offences under Sections 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506(1) (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

In May 2024, the trial court framed charges against Singh for offences related to sexual harassment and outraging the modesty of five women wrestlers. It also found sufficient material to frame charges of criminal intimidation in relation to two of the complainants.

Vinod Tomar was also charged with criminal intimidation for allegedly threatening one of the women wrestlers.

A separate case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was also registered after a minor wrestler made allegations against Singh. However, the minor later withdrew her complaint, following which the Delhi Police filed a cancellation report and the case was closed.
