An advocate has approached the Delhi High Court with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking the urgent restoration and uninterrupted operation of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus services amid an ongoing strike by its workers.

The matter is likely to be heard on Wednesday by a bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia.

DTC bus drivers, conductors and other staff involved in public bus operations have been on strike since September 15, demanding higher wages and other benefits.

The PIL seeks directions to the authorities to ensure the immediate restoration, maintenance and continuity of public bus transport services across Delhi.

Petitioner Ami Sisodia has stated that the disruption has particularly affected women who rely on free public transport and are now forced to use expensive alternative modes of commuting.

The plea further states that the strike is affecting lakhs of residents, including students, daily-wage workers, salaried employees, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, patients and economically weaker sections who depend on affordable public transportation.

It also points out that the disruption has increased the burden on Delhi Metro services as commuters turn to the Metro for their daily travel.

The petition has been filed through advocate Vikrant Dabas.
