Breaking: Lawyers' Arrested; SCBA Condemns Detention of Advocates, Seeks CJI’s Urgent Intervention

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has expressed grave concern over the reported use of excessive force against and detention of senior and young Advocates, particularly women Advocates, who were peacefully protesting in the Supreme Court area on October 10, 2026.

In a resolution dated October 10, 2026, the Association stated that it had been informed that several Advocates had been detained during the incident. The SCBA condemned the reported use of excessive force and called for urgent intervention by the Chief Justice of India.

SCBA Seeks Safety and Legal Assistance for Detained Advocates

The Association has requested the Chief Justice of India to urgently take up the matter with the concerned authorities and ensure that the whereabouts and safety of every detained Advocate are ascertained.

It has further called for all detained Advocates to be given access to legal assistance and for those against whom there are no lawful grounds for detention to be released immediately.

Calls for Examination of Detentions

The SCBA has also requested that the circumstances surrounding the detentions and the reported use of force be examined and that appropriate action be taken in accordance with law.

The resolution states that a copy should be placed before the Chief Justice of India for urgent consideration.

The resolution was signed by Pragya Baghel, Honorary Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association.

The Association's resolution underscores its concern regarding the safety of Advocates exercising their right to peaceful protest and calls for lawful action in relation to the reported detentions.
