Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, has won the 4th Sports Arbitration Moot Award Competition 2026–27, with a team of four students securing the top position in the international competition focused on sports law and arbitration.

The winning team comprised Mahi Agrawal, Siya Gupta, Ambati Nupur Rao and Atharv Sharma. In recognition of their performance, the team was awarded a monetary prize of €1,000.

Competition Witnesses Participation from 76 Teams Worldwide

The Sports Arbitration Moot Award Competition is an extension of the Sports Arbitration Moot, an international academic competition that focuses on contemporary legal issues arising in sports arbitration.

The 2026 edition of the Sports Arbitration Moot was held in Madrid, Spain, in May 2026, and saw participation from 76 teams representing universities across the world. The competition provided students with an opportunity to engage with complex legal questions in sports arbitration through a simulated professional setting.

Match-Fixing in Football at the Centre of Moot Proposition

The moot proposition for this year's competition centred on the issue of match-fixing in a football match. The dispute was argued before a simulated Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), requiring participants to examine the intersection of sports regulations, arbitration principles, disciplinary proceedings and the integrity of sporting competitions.

Throughout the competition, the HNLU team demonstrated legal research, analytical ability, written advocacy and oral advocacy while addressing complex factual and legal questions in sports arbitration.

Vice-Chancellor Congratulates Winning Team

Congratulating the students on their achievement, HNLU Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) V.C. Vivekanandan said the accomplishment adds to the university's growing record of excellence in national and international moot court competitions.

He stated that the achievement reflects the university's continued emphasis on experiential legal education, advocacy skills and emerging areas of legal practice.

Hidayatullah National Law University congratulated Mahi Agrawal, Siya Gupta, Ambati Nupur Rao and Atharv Sharma on their accomplishment and wished them continued success in their academic and professional pursuits.

The victory marks a significant achievement for HNLU in the specialised field of sports law and arbitration, highlighting the growing importance of emerging areas of legal practice in contemporary legal education.
