The Central government has appointed 15 new judges to the Madras High Court, including eight advocates and seven judicial officers.

The appointments were announced through a notification issued by the Union Minister of State for Law and Justice in a post on X.

The eight advocates appointed as judges of the Madras High Court are:

• Govindarajan Krishnaswamy
• Rajnish Pathiyil
• Ramesh Natarajan
• GK Muthukumaar
• Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan
• Raveekumar Sankaranarayanan
• Dilip Kumar Nagarajan
• Ellappan Manoharan

Seven judicial officers have also been appointed as additional judges. They are:

• P Murugan
• M D Sumathi
• S Alli
• C Thirumagal
• Shanmugam Karthikeyan
• Murugesan Baluchamy
• N Gunasekaran

The appointments come amid a significant shortage of judges in the Madras High Court. The court is currently functioning with 51 judges against a sanctioned strength of 75, leaving 24 positions vacant.
